More than 60% of these species are internationally protected, being included in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The circulating endothelial progenitor cells – a predictor of coronary and myocardial remodeling after coronary angioplasty

Description: The number of circulating progenitor endothelial cells (PECs) determined by flow-metric method is reduced in patients with angiocoronarography confirmed coronary injury by almost 59% comparatively to index of health persons: 31,76±24,13 vs 86,67±21,72 (p<0,05) in 1 ml of blood. After coronary angioplasty in patients with coronary stenosis >70% PECs increased by 47,5% (p<0,05) in first 6 months in patients without major adverse coronary events and nonsignificantly elevated in case of in-stent restenosis (ISR) development.

Description: The invention consists in disinfesting the pheasants (of ecto- and endoparasites) and, simultaneously, in meeting the physiological needs of their organism in vitamins, oligo elements, and easy assimilated concentrated minerals during the cold season of the year and in spring, in the pre-reproductive period. This produces a new qualitative effect allowing to ensuring their survival, but also increasing their reproductive potential in natural conditions, and reducing the risk of being captured by predators. The result of the invention consists in enhancing the therapeutic effect to 95.5% of treated pheasants.

Regeneration of pulp in the therapy of the apical chronic periodontitis for children

Innovative generation of ultrasonic systems for the e-diagnostics vibrating system with wireless control system

Description: Development of new generation ultrasonic welding and cutting system with enhanced reliability and lifecycle of the vibrating system, fitted with e-diagnostics of the vibrating system, is a world-class novelty. Development of the new technological solution and design method for welding systems, in particular considering non-linear phenomena occurring in the vibrating system and e-diagnostics of the vibrating system in the design process, materially improve cost-effectiveness and competitive advantage of this technology. Results of scientific research were implemented in modern ultrasonic welding systems used in large-scale and mass manufacture processes, in continuous operation regime, where the standstill caused by system failure could cost a company serious losses. Adopted solutions are protected with 13 patents. In the consequence quality, repeatability and efficiency of the welding process are improved. The research produced solutions going beyond present frontiers that usability of limit ultrasonic welding technology to small surface areas of ca. 100 cm2. Design, calculation and simulation work in vibrating systems operation led to development of large-size sonotrodes that enable obtaining suitable amplitude of mechanical vibrations (in the direction perpendicular to sonotrode face) with uniform distribution of such amplitude over the sonotrode face surface. Scientific significance of the project needs to be stressed, since neither literature nor present solutions are missing studies on modeling and designing ultrasonic tools considering effect of non-linear phenomena to parameters of the welding process and operation of vibrating systems; the research contributes such missing knowledge. The solution is an expected and significant innovation not only in welding and/or cutting of plastics, because findings of the project shall be also applied in areas that require relatively large sonotrode working space, such as juice maceration, emulsification – mixing two insoluble liquids, e.g. in production of paints or biofuels (e.g. from ethyl alcohol and rapeseed oil), disintegration of biomass in sewage biodegradation process, or biodegradation of waste in biogas plants. Project outcome contributes to development of ultrasonic technologies in Poland and around the world, by creating innovative solutions, the example of which is application of this technology in the continuous ultrasonic welding process, used in production of multilayered pipes PERT-AIPERT by company TWEETOP; the product is used in construction applications for erection of indoor water-based heating systems and panel-heating systems. The solution was also implemented in ultrasonic applications of companies AGRIMPEX EWA PIOTRÓW, Lubacell Sp. z o.o., INSTAR Sp. J. Additional, scientific outcome of the project is granting a PHD degree to ITR employee in 2015 and 2 PhDs in the making.

Innovative combination of gas nitriding and deep cryogenic treatment of hot working tools

Description: Innovative combination of gas nitriding and deep cryogenic treatment of hot working tools
Research carried out by the Polish-Czech consortium enabled the development and implementation into the industrial practice of technology using innovative heat treatment processes with deep cryogenic treatment (DCT) of nitrided layers formed on hot work tools. This technology is an innovative approach to the problem of thermo-chemical treatment of steel, reversing the sequence of heat treatment and nitriding used so far. In the heat and thermo-chemical treatment cycle, the DCT process is used, which allows not only high performance properties of the nitrided layer to be achieved, but also increased properties of the core of material. Change in the heat treatment and nitriding sequence allows the use of higher nitriding temperatures, thus shortening the process time necessary to form a layer with the required thickness. A significant reduction in the duration of the heat and thermo-chemical heat treatment cycle leads to a reduction in the costs of tool manufacturing. It also makes it possible to reduce emissions of environmentally harmful process gases.
Innovative technology reduces friction wear of hot work tool steel by more than half. Currently, it is used in the MOTOTECHNIKA company for heat treatment of die inserts used in the manufacturing of forgings of car parts. Works on the use of technology in the production of high-speed steel broaches by Czech consortium partners are in progress.

Innovative endoprosthesis design and manufacturing system

Description: The innovative endoprosthesis design system is a unique, composite scheme of procedures and technical solutions developed at the Institute of Precision Mechanics to design and manufacture individualized implants in patients with musculoskeletal disorders. The processes of synostosis and restoration of the mobility of pathologically or traumatologically altered bone structures are conditioned not only by the surgical technique and the design of endoprostheses themselves (geometry, material, technology), but also by the individually variable mechanical properties of the tissue structures at the microstructural level. The techniques that enable the collection of the patient’s individual material data are also taken into consideration in the system.
The system consists of 3 groups of measurement techniques:
I. techniques enabling the analysis of mechanical and structural properties of the patient’s maternal tissue on the basis of the samples obtained during the arthroplasty with the consent of the Bioethics Committee:
• ?CT – computer microtomography that makes it possible to obtain an image of the porous structure of the bone from the selected anatomical area during the arthroplasty;
• 3D rapid prototyping techniques to make models of the maternal tissue structure for design purposes;
• DIC – Digital Image Correlation – a system used to assess the bone tissue strenuous microstructure;
• DSI – Depth Sensing Indentation – nanoindentation providing information on hardness and elasticity parameters of materialas as well as its response to micro-load;
• „Rotational Bridge” – a special device for assessing the behaviour of material during axial twisting with an increasing amplitude.
II. techniques supporting the implementation of geometric models and techniques for the production of implant prototypes, i.e.
• CAD programming,
• Rapid Prototyping incremental techniques, in particular SLM (Selective Laser Melting) for the production of metallic powder implants.
III. techniques used for a geometrical, material and functional verification of a custom design endoprosthesis.

The latest element of the system is the „Rotational Bridge” which is used both in the design phase of custom-design endoprostheses and their final material verification. The loads that the tested material transfers during the forced, increasing degree of deformation are analyzed and evaluated on the stand. It is a method that allows to estimate the percentage differences in the strength of bone tissues coming from different areas of the integral anatomical system.
Work on the “Innovative endoprosthesis design system” – know how, carried out in response to the social needs concerning various diseased areas of the patient’s musculoskeletal system, resulted in specific constructional and technological solutions that became the subject of the following patents: PAT. 213019 – Implant of the intervertebral disc of the lumbar spine, PAT. 219179 – Endoprosthesis of the intervertebral disc of the spine, PAT.225083 – Stand for the experimental simulation of the reduction of spinal vertebrae fractures, PAT. 179843 and PAT.176219- Radial bone head endoprosthesis, PAT.189069 – Elbow joint simulator,

Innovative endoprosthesis design and manufacturing system The method and system of storing heat or cold in electrical vehicles

Description: Electric vehicles have become a popular and universal alternative for combustion engine vehicles in public transport. Due to increasing pollution in cities and smog-related issues, the application of electric drives has become attractive. The problem associated with such vehicles is their range, relatively lower when compared with those of combustion engine vehicles. In addition, air-conditioning systems are responsible for the range being severely lowered- even by 40% in extreme cases. As a consequence, a need emerged for reducing the adverse impact of AC systems upon the operation of electric vehicles, and simultaneously, maintaining thermal comfort of passengers.

Hitherto, standard AC systems have been employed in order to ensure passengers’ thermal comfort. However, as mentioned above, these result in the range of electric vehicles being lowered. In order to counteract the reduction, electric busses are equipped with additional, electro-chemical energy sources, primarily Li-Ion batteries. These are heavy and expensive. The cost of such batteries in electric busses can amount to even half of its production cost.

The present invention improves passengers’ thermal comfort in electric vehicles by the application of heat and cold storage system. The solution extends the total range of electric vehicles, and allows financial gains to be obtained by braking energy being recovered and downhill ride speed maintained. The solution also allows for operation costs to be lowered by replacing expensive and unreliable chemical energy sources with a cheap and simple heat and cold storage system. The solution may partly replace electrochemical batteries, which results in the overall operation time of the vehicle being extended. The solution is based upon biodegradable components, which exerts a positive impact upon natural environment.

The application of heat and cold storage systems extends battery life of electrochemical batteries installed in electric vehicles. In the traditional solutions applied in electric vehicles, energy is dispersed in brake resistors. The solution transforms brake energy into heat or cold and stores the energy is the storage system to be used in air-conditioning and heating of passenger compartment of the vehicle. This translates into the vehicle’s range being extended and operation costs lowered. In addition, the opportunity to load the storage system during low-peak energy tariffs relieves the load of electro-energy system. The electrochemical energy sources being replaced by the solution will extend operation time of the vehicle from 10 to 30 years, much beyond the expected operation time of the electric vehicle. In addition, the reduction of the number of chemical batteries will contribute to safety improvements regarding electric vehicles’ exploitation.

New generation of biodegradable nanoparticle carriers for effective brain transfer of drugs and bioactive compounds for anti-tumour therapy and adjuvant therapy for neurodegenerative diseases

Description: The key of invention is a development of a new type of biocompatible oxide nanoparticles for the transfer of drugs and bioactive compounds into the brain tissue. The designated target of the invention are the tumour therapy and adjuvant therapy in the neurodegenerative diseases (i.e. bioactive supplements for Alzheimer disease).
Nanoparticle-drug composite delivered orally undergoes efficient uptake from the gastrointestinal tract, is delivered by blood to the brain, where within 24 h it is transported through the tight blood-brain barrier into the neurons. After the brain delivery nanoparticle-drug complex disassociates and the drug/compound is deposited in the neurons, while nanoparticle carriers undergo efficient biodegradation.

Device homogenizing granular composition of material in heap

Description: The invention provides a device for homogenization of granulometric composition of granular material, converging dispersed granular material falling from the return drum of a belt conveyor into streams containing the whole grain size range and directing them vertically into selected locations of the heap. Device for homogenization of granulometric composition has at least five chambers, open on the material inlet side, separated with vertical partitions, perpendicular to belt conveyor return drum axis.
Each chamber, receiving the feed of aggregate is fitted with a funnel-shaped chute assembly, comprising chutes and guides. The chute assembly installed axially in the device’s central chamber comprises two chutes, converging towards the bottom, connected with vertical guides inside, which create a gap for vertical removal of concentrated stream of material containing the whole range of grain sizes from individual feeds.
Chute assembly of the front chamber comprises chutes with planes converging towards the bottom with the front wall, chute guides, governing the size of discharge gap for homogenized stream of material. Chute assembly of the rear chamber comprises chutes with planes converging towards the bottom with the rear wall and chute guides. In addition, chute assemblies of the front chamber and rear chamber are fitted with moving guides, preferably sliding guides, installed in the bottom section of the chamber – one guide being vertical and the other one inclined. The vertical guide is connected with the front wall or the rear wall converging the chute, depending on chamber type, whereas the inclined guide is connected with the chute, preferably by mechanism locking the guide in position.
Dispersed stream of material with diverse falling routes of various size grains is formed in chambers, after leaving the belt conveyor after passing the return drum, into streams of material with homogenous grain size composition, corresponding with material carried on the belt conveyor. Granular material with homogeneous grain size composition formed in chambers is directed by chute assemblies from chambers into selected location of a heap, in vertical streams, via discharge gaps created by converging guides which adjust their size.

Hydrophobic feathers-based nonwovens obtained by spund-bonded technique

Description: The production technology of spun bonded nonwoven is known, but the method of introducing the additive in the form of ground poultry feathers so as to obtain a nonwoven composite with good mechanical properties is new. Components of spun bonded process are Polypropylene (PP) or Polylactide (PLA) and Chicken feathers.. Composite nonwovens are hydrophobic and can be used as a filter material, in construction, agriculture or the automotive industry.

BeeNebulaApp® – application using satellite data for monitoring bees’ activity

Description:  BeeNebulaApp® is first of a series of the independent NebulaApplication® products, dedicated to precision agriculture, which together make a system of both innovative technological solutions and software (NebulaSystem®). The BeeNebulaApp® solution, developed at Institute of Aviation, Poland, provides precise (regarding both time and space) information on key agricultural phenomena, such as activity of pollinators and optimal conditions for safe usage of plant protection agents.
Through access to satellite data it is possible to determine quantity, space and time aspects of pollinators’ activity, conditioned largely by current atmospheric conditions. The developed methodology enables determination of the optimal time slot for using plant protection agents. This innovative technology solution can help reduce costs and increase the effectiveness of agrotechnical operations.
The Institute of Aviation, where the invention has been developed, has the infrastructure, technical capabilities, expertise, as well as innovative and unique solutions for remotely estimating the activity of pollinators and other important processes affecting the quantity and quality of crops. The development of NebulaSystem® was possible by combining the expertise and the potential in different fields, such as: remote sensing, meteorology and natural science (entomology and modern agriculture). The solution will allow farmers to manage cultivations more effectively, in the way adjusted to atmospheric conditions. The series of NebulaApp® applications, together making the NebulaSystem®, will be provided as dedicated mobile phones and computer applications. Implementing of NebulaSystem® into operation will allow for more effective implementation of sustainable development policy, safe management of natural resources, and minimization of negative influence of human activity on the environment.

Description: Infrastructure-free inertial navigation system is a technique for determining person position, using only on-body sensors and without communication with external radio-based solutions. The main features of such system are:
* it can operate in the absence of GPS signal (especially indoors),
* it operates without any infrastructure-based solutions (like beacons or WiFi signal, etc.),
* building plans are not required,
* very high sampling rate of position estimates.
